The Fahrenheit 451 Book Meme came from several directions– and I didn’t wait to be tagged. If I did, it would be a very long wait…
You are stuck inside “Fahrenheit 451.” Which book would you save?
Mmm, tough. It seems like it should be something inspiring, but maybe something good would be enough to get people thinking about books after the culture vanishes?
I’d go for Lackey’s The Last Herald Mage: Magic’s Promise. It shows wistful fantasy, acceptance of diversity, and a desire to take responsibility. Not high lit, but it makes me happy.
Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?
Probably. I do remember liking Luz (from Leguin’s Eye of the Heron), and feeling inspired by her.
What is the last book you bought?
Three at once, at San Fransisco’s City Lights while on vacation. How Buildings Learn: What Happens After They’re Built by Stewart Brand, Angry Black White Boy by Adam Mansblach, and a collection of poems.
What are you currently reading?
Angry Black White Boy by Adam Mansblach
Five books you would take to a desert island:
Tough question. Assuming scholarly books on how to escape the island, survive, etc. were off limits or would do no good… and that I can bend “book” into series as so many others have, my list would look something like this. (Well, at this moment anyway.)
a) Wizard of Earthsea (trilogy), by Ursula LeGuin. I’d take the full six books, but the trilogy’s the core.
b) Tamora Pierce’s Song of the Lioness quartet. Cause I want something new to read, and getting marooned on a desert island’s a good excuse.
c) Lackey’s Last Herald Mage trilogy. No defense, I just like it.
d) C.S. Lewis’s Narnia series. Cause it’s as close as I get to formal religion/Christianity, and I suspect I’d appreciate the solace (crossed with fiction).
e) My old Physics textbook. So I can keep my mind sharp, learn some things that I glossed over at the time. I’d also hope to make a discovery that would encourage future time travelers to come interview me… or return with me to their future.
