Repost of Kev’s Site link. His World history, & Character Creation rules.
I thought we could use a thread to talk about character concepts, ask questions, figure out what we want to see in a campaign, and the like. (Plus, if I find any useful links, I’ll tack them on.)

UPDATE: Royce was a decent test of the character generation program, but probably won’t be the character I play in the game. I’m more interested in creating my character during or as a result of talking with you– so we’re all jazzed about my character, not just me. Plus, a character created with you will probably fill a solid role, instead of being someone you hang out with because he’s a PC. Hopefully.
So chummers, you wanna hear about R.O., neh?
I’ll can the drek. This new me, san SIN, sans life, is still a chick, pecking for seeds. Still fuzzy feathered.
I had a life, a shop, and did good work. Not great work– I don’t work for Farlight, you know? I built cyberdecks and customized some electronics. I made a solid deal, got a contract with Baird Communications (thanks, in part, to my buddy Simon). Same ol, same ol.
The nuyen was nice; nothin to brag on, but a steady stream of cred. Sometimes a good side job would show up. A credstick under the table for some cyberdeck repairs, that kind of thing. Drek, I’ve fixed a car or three in my day– I keep quiet about the bullet holes, you know? And electronics… there’s always someone who can’t even program their toaster. So I kept busy.
Until a few Thursdays ago. 3:25 AM, a call from some Lone Star secretary. My shop was burning, there were signs of vandalism and theft. I hot footed it over there, got there in time to see Seattle’s finest wandering the crime scene. When they led me inside, I saw only fire and sludge. A number of the more specialized devices were slagged and what little hadn’t been stolen was a toxic puddle in the middle of the floor.
I’d tried for years to play by the rules, do things right, toil until I could retire. Frag that. There’s a more direct way to make your money… and to make the contacts I’ll need to track and hose those runners.
So, to summarize- I built a non-standard guy. He’s very skill rich, with only modest stats and little cyberware. I intend to use him like a detective; RO still has contacts from his shop owning days, he’s a great negotiator, a decent shot, and solid at fixing things. If there’s no decker he can cover the position, since he’s good at computers. Electronics means he can beat security and the like. He might make a good “face” for the group.

On further thought– While I thought up and cranked out a character (and I like him), I’d rather select/ build him during a session where we all talk about what we want to do. I’d rather get your interest and buy in up front, instead of having us each build characters and cross our fingers that they’ll mesh together.
Does anyone have any questions about Shadowruns, the world of 2058, or anything else? Maybe if Kev and I answer questions, we can get everyone excited about it. [If we can’t drum up much excitement, maybe, much as I like Shadowrun, we should pick something else.]
Scott and I have just been talking about charachters for this game, he has some ideas, as does Tricia, but I think, with several people new to the system, the best thing to do would be to run you guys through a simple one shot, with each of you haveing some pre-gen’d chars, probably out of the book. That way you can see the variety of chars availble in this game, get an idea of the way the system works, and THEN maybe have a better idea of the char you want to play.
DONT stop thinking about what you want, ideas are great, I just want to expose you all to a variety before you get locked into anything.
