More Location Scouting

Today I hit two stores this morning– the first on my way to walk Dad’s dogs, the other near our house across from Fresno High.

The first store is in the Westlan shopping center at West and Ashlan, SE corner. In the first photo, the big store on the left is CVS, the small sign at the back is a nail studio, then our store behind the tree. In the second photo, I’m shooting directly at the store face (again, behind the tree on the left); on the right you can see DD’s discounts.

Walking up, it’s a little hidden in the corner. The storefront is new and the face is attractive. Shooting inside, I think it’s the right size and attractively painted. I don’t know how much office/storage/etc. space is hidden at the back of the store behind that door. Hopefully there’s a restroom back there…

I like this space, though there won’t be much foot traffic. There is a lot of parking and the center is successful– there are quite a few cars parked and shopping, and it isn’t grungy. It’s not particularly visible from the street, but I think there’s a space on the monument sign.

The second space I hit later. It’s right around the corner from home, opposite Fresno High School, right next door to Echo Street Coffee.

From here, I shot through the windows. I like the space– the red wall in the center is a good start on a divider for play/retail space. The windows bump out beyond the door with knee high platforms– it makes for an attractive display space. I think it might be a little on the small side, but I’ll call and find out what they’re thinking.

I like the space, but worry that it’s well south of Shaw. It also has very limited parallel only parking, though across the street the high school spots are a quick walk if people are willing and the events are when school is out. (I think that’ll usually be the case– it certainly works out okay for Echo St. Coffee). It doesn’t have any nearby convenience stores other than the Filipino Market a few doors down. I’ll call and get numbers (SF and $/SF). [Edited to add: The store is too small– it’s only 1000 SF, though the lease rate and lack of triple-net makes it tempting anyway.]

The Westlan Shopping Center one looks nice. And having plenty of parking is good. It looks larger than the 1000 sq ft one below it. Did you find out the sq ft or if it has a restroom yet? Not a big deal to have a restroom if a public restroom is really close, but problematic otherwise. 🙂

Jennifer and I are going to open a game store this fall! Jennifer’s been working on the business plan for months and it’s finally go time– so we’re putting it all together.

Since we started pushing ahead and letting people know, there’s been an outpouring of support. There’s a lot of pent up desire for a good store in town– I think we can do an excellent job of providing one.
