Previously On…

A few more years have passed, bringing change both small and large.

The first and largest change was about work. In  2010 I was laid off a week after my wife quit her job. After a period of incredible stress, we threw ourselves into a an immense venture: Crazy Squirrel Game Store. It’s been a crazy ride, but we were surprisingly well received and made it through three years. The store did well enough that we’ve signed a new lease for a much bigger space for five years. Whew!

From early 2012 through the end of 2013, I commuted to the bay area to work as a plan check engineer. It was a good couple of years, filled with new friends–but also separation from Jennifer 5 days a week. Fortunately, in 2014, my employer allowed me to move to a local office… so now I see my wife again every night. My life is slowly thawing out from two years on the road, but there is still a lot of juggling and rebuilding.

On the writing front, my article Introductory Games for New Roleplayers was publlshed in Open Game Table Volume 2. I also contributed substantially to both Eureka: 501 Adventure Plots to Inspire Game Masters and Masks: 1,000 Memorable NPCs for Any Roleplaying Game. (They were collaborative projects, with each gnome contributing an equal number of the plots and characters. There’s an author index if you want to see which ones are mine.)

I am one of the gnomes from Gnome Stew (which is what led to all of the above).

(The 2010 version of me follows…)

Welcome! I’ve been a gamer for quite a while and look forward to sharing something I enjoy with you. I also babble about other things, such as cooking experiments and books I’ve recently read.

Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer face off

I married Jennifer on March 26th, 2008. Our life together is very good, though employment is in a rough patch at the moment. We enjoy many hobbies in common (she is also a great board gamer and enjoys roleplaying games), though we keep some separate space for our own interests.

If you want even more talk about gaming, I contribute to Gnome Stew, a collection of passionate GMs eager to share their expertise. We’re just about to publish Eureka: 501 Adventure Plots to Inspire Game Masters, to which I contributed about 1/10th of the text. (We each contributed an equal share of the book’s plots.) I’m also looking forward to having a couple of articles reprinted in Open Game Table, Volume 2, due summer 2010.

We are owned by Moca. (His temporary name, derived from “monkey on crack”, seems to be sticking.)
